National Anthem Act, 1973
Chapter 7
An Act to declare the National Anthem; to regulate the use thereof and to create an offence for any insult thereto; to empower the President to make regulations; and to provide for matters incidental to or connected with the foregoing.
1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the National Anthem Act.
2. Declaration of the National Anthem
(1)The National Anthem of which the text is set out in the First Schedule is hereby declared to be the National Anthem of Zambia (in this Act referred to as "the National Anthem").(2)The music set out in the Second Schedule is hereby declared to be the music for the National Anthem.3. Insulting the National Anthem
Any person who does any act with intent to insult or bring into contempt or ridicule the National Anthem shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding five thousand penalty units or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years, or to both.
4. Regulations
The President may, by statutory instrument, make regulations—
(a)prescribing the occasions upon which, the persons by whom and the manner in which the National Anthem may be sung;(b)prohibiting, controlling or restricting the use of the National Anthem;(c)constituting offences in relation to any of the matters referred to in the foregoing paragraphs and prescribing penalties in respect thereof.
