Issues addressed: This Bill seeks to achieve several key objectives. Firstly, it proposes the continuation of the Tropical Diseases Research Centre under a new name, the National Health Research and Training Institute, while also redefining its functions to better align with current health priorities. Secondly, the Bill aims to enhance the scope of health research and training within the country.

Additionally, the Bill provides for the establishment of the National Health Research Laboratory, a critical facility intended to support and advance health research efforts. The legislation also addresses the need for research in indigenous knowledge systems, as well as in traditional, complementary, and alternative medicines, recognising their importance in the broader healthcare landscape.

The Bill repeals and replaces the existing legislation governing the Tropical Diseases Research Centre, integrating its functions into the new Institute.
